Creating my school magazine cover

I decided to take a few more close up photographs to incorporate into my real school magazine front cover. I took three more from which the one shown below on the right, was chosen. I chose this photograph because it has a great composition and is well lit. I found that the picture was very much blue and decided to use the 'colour balance' to enhance the qualty of the photo. On each of the tone balances, shadows, midtones and highlights I experimented with the colour levels on cyan, magneta and yellow. I took the pointer of each of them to the very highest and then to the very lowest and adjusted it as I saw was appropriate. The outcome was much clearer and added a superb quality to the photograph.

Above, on the left is my outcome of using 'colour balance'.

Improving Test Magazine Cover on Photoshop

After I had edited my background layer I took a few other close up photographs from which the two shown on top of the background were used. I wanted to create a 3D popping out effect which I have seen on some covers. With this experiment, I have become more familiar with the tools of photoshop and can now confidently use the tools as necessary to create the popping out effect. I had edited the two photos by adding a layer mask and discarding the parts of the photo which I did not want to use. I did not do them both accurately as this was only my experiment. I am now going to take a few more close up shots of students and also equipment (mise-en-scene) to perhaps use for my front cover. For the background I may use a plain background but this experiment has made me understand what I am going to do.

Experiments with photos on School Magazine

I took this photo of fortismere students to experiment with on photoshop, as my background layer. I thought it would make an interesting cover for a school magazine as it has a very busy foreground along with surrounding buildings and has a school atmosphere to it. I had worked on this photo previously on photoshop by adding the title of the magazine. This was my experiment so I worked with the effects only rather than to think of a name now.

What I have been doing so far in Photoshop

In mr Kenny's lessons I have been working in Photoshop. I had to take a picture of an area within the school campus to use within Photoshop. I chose the sports facilities to take pictures of, as sports is what I can talk about the most in my magazine. I had to choose one of the pictures I took and using Photoshop edit it. I learnt how to use the various tools, although not all of them but certainly the main ones which would allow me to do an extensive range of editing. The picture that I was using for editing was a picture where I could experiment and grasp a great understanding of the tools and how to use them.
